They are very sensitive to dirty or sticky hands or if they spill something etc., so I know I could never potty train by just letting them have accidents. But I've been super lucky. My first two were both potty trained within 2 months after they turned 2. With maybe one accident each. I know I'm lucky (although I love to think it's because I read the signs right etc.) Now Aaron is exactly the age they were when they were potty trained, but I know he's got a good six months to a year before he's ready. His language is not like there's was, and he's barely got down "hot" and "cold" so I don't think the "need to pee" sense will come for a while. But I sure hope he'll be out of diapers by the time the next one comes along!LisAwayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03299284773832500834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25267270.post-19949987251106617342009-06-30T11:23:13.353-07:002009-06-30T11:23:13.353-07:00With my son, a wise woman told me,"I can guar...With my son, a wise woman told me,"I can guarantee he won't be in diapers when he leaves on his mission." You are an AWESOME mother, and your kids are LUCKY and BLESSED to have you.

When my oldest was 18 months old, I started stressing about potty training. Fortunately, an older mother of eight heard me verbalize these worries and said, "Oh, no. Don't you DARE try potty training them until they are BEGGING you for underwear."

I took her advice, and secretly, I was glad. Because do you know how hard it is to find good, child-friendly bathrooms in Manhattan? We went off to the park blissfully for years, diapers in tow, when other mothers (and nannies) all around us were stress maggots over the where-to-pee issue.

I'm so vulnerable to peer pressure that I'm sure I would have had major trauma on my hands if not for my angel friend.

Younger moms: make them BEG you for underwear. Trust me: I have six kids, five of whom are potty-trained (the youngest is 13 months old). I know whereof I speak.Luisa Perkinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15310698422276446909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25267270.post-77693441946292328512009-06-20T13:51:32.745-07:002009-06-20T13:51:32.745-07:00I'm sure many a mom can relate. I have always told people that potty training was the thing I hated most about being a Mom. Neither one of my kids did the PT well. They both are incredibly stubborn like their Mom, so maybe that is the reason. All I can say is "YEA" I never have to potty train again!!!Why Not? Because I Said So!https://www.blogger.com/profile/12875366296917497497noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25267270.post-49044187120780105472009-06-20T12:17:30.455-07:002009-06-20T12:17:30.455-07:00Potty training is one of the worst and best parts ...Potty training is one of the worst and best parts of parenting in my opinion. I dreaded it. I would prefer to clean a contained mess (diaper) as opposed to a all over mess. My son turns 5 next week and will be going to Kindergarten. Finally decided for him that it was time. He has been potty trained for 2 months now. We potty trained my daughter who was 3 at the same time.

I tried everything. "Look at the cool underwear you can wear." "Dora/Elmo/Car's don't want you to pee on them." "Diapers are for babies." "Look, she uses the potty and she's your age". Everything.

Finally this is what worked for us. We said May 1st no more diapers. Took my son 2 days, my daughter 4 days. Had a few accidents, they've been doing awesome. We put the timer on for my son every 20 mins to try the potty. We told him if he tried the potty before the timer, we'd add more time on to it. He loved that idea and sat on it lots more than if he just waited 20 mins. Finally he peed, and it clicked. My daughter (who is dramatic) didn't like the 20 min timer. So we let her pick how long she wanted to wait. She usually picked something like 5 mins. Took her longer, but it clicked.

Gave them a present when they used the potty (sticker, eraser, cheap stuff). Have been phasing it out now. Best thing.

(Oh and we had 3 in diapers for a few months there.. crazy stuff.)Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08780403731792627798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25267270.post-67966518261217023352009-06-20T11:51:28.085-07:002009-06-20T11:51:28.085-07:00LOL--I've just recently encountered the endeav...LOL--I've just recently encountered the endeavor of to pee or not to pee.
