I NEED REVIEWS! a blog contest

It's that time again, the time of year when Josi begs and pleads for happy words about her books to infiltrate the literary worlds and woo fair readers into hypnotic credit-card-swiping moods of grand effusement and joy.

What? Effusement isn't a word says my spell check. Then a pox; a pox on such dictionaries that don't recognize such feedudulement of vocabularic variousness! (incidentally, vocabularic does seem to be a word.)

Alas, I do not simply beg for help without the understanding of reciprocation and therefore the current contest is thus:

  • Contest runs from 8/31/10-9/7/10
  • Points are only awarded for nice things said during the dates noted above
  • For each point you earn, you get entered in to what will be a random drawing done on www.random.org. Hence, if you have 509 points, your name is entered 509 times and you can egg my house if you don't win.
*Points are earned in the following ways:
  • Mention me or any of my books in a positive way in your facebook status
  • Mention me or any of my books in a positive way in your twitter update
  • Retweet someone else's positive mention in their twitter update
  • Blog about me or any of my books in a positive way (you can copy and paste this blog contest post if you would like)
  • Leave an online review on any of the following sites for any of my books (you can use the same review on multiple sites)
www.amazon.com
www.deseretbook.com
www.barnesandnoble.com
www.seagullbookandtape.com
www.goodreads.com
www.shelfari.com

Once you have earned your points, come back here and leave a comment on this blog with how many points you earned and a brief description of how you earned them. (remember where liars go if you are tempted to exaggerate). You will be subsequently entered into the contest once for each point earned.

Prizes are as follows:

Grand Prize: An autographed copy of Annette Lyon's Chocolate Cookbook (will be sent when the book is released in October 2010)
Second Prize: An autographed copy of any one of my books AND a bag of Sunkist Fruit Chews because they are so yummy and don't melt like Pretzel M & M's which I don't dare send in the mail.
Third Prize: An autographed copy of any one of my books.
Fourth Place: THIS because I think the world is a better place when everyone who wants a collection of wheat ear pennies has that opportunity.

Keep in mind I can send prizes to someone else in case there is someone you really need to kiss up to right now :-) Christmas is coming, whose naughty list are you on?

PS--you get double points for any reviews left for Key Lime Pie :-)

How do we let you read our posts? I am addicted to the Sadie Hoffmiller books. I bought Key Lime Pie as soon as I saw it, and had it finished in 2 days (granted my college life suffered slightly). I blog about your books a lot, and tell everyone they need to read them. So, back to my original question, how do we enter? You can email me or whatever. Thanks!

p.s. can't wait for Blackberry Crumble and I will be very sad if it is the last one. Not that any one fan's opinion sways your decision. I'm just putting that out there haha! :)

Okay Josi. I made you the subject of my Facebook status, I left reviews at Deseret Book and Amazon. I also did a review on Goodreads yesterday, so I hope you'll give me points for that! And I do this not for the prizes, but because you are awesome. Well, the prizes might help a little... ; )

Aw, man! I had my Key Lime Pie contest a week too early.

Oh, well. I'll make an extra effort.

I actually came across a book or two of yours at DI a while back, and just recently started reading Sheeps Clothing. But it's not the first of your books I've read.

I do LOVE your stuff. So I'll get busy on the spreading the word stuff to get you noticed more so than you are now!! Your works are great!! Of course, it' my opinion. But who else matters??

After I read the first three in the Sadie Hoffmiller series, someone I talked to said they didn't like Sadie - obnoxious. When I analyzed why I liked her, I realized that except for the fact that I don't know someone who might know someone who might kill someone, I'm a lot like Sadie. That explains so much about me as a writer. I'm the queen of tweak. I decided to write because 30 years ago in my isolated village in central Utah I couldn't find anything by LDS authors that didn't feel like I'd just eaten a whole plate of cupcakes at one sitting, followed by half a gallon of ice cream. And a lot of my friends, well-educated thinking women, reported the same experience. Now I live in the metropolis of Provo and I've taken to reading LDS authors again. I'm impressed. Speaking as someone whose first novel has just been rejected from by a second publisher, I'm extremely impressed. At a time when so many LDS authors are off in the fantasy/dystopia/science fiction/YA/vampire/murder realm, it's refreshing to read another voice in the contemporary drama genre where I feel so at home.

To deal with the Sadie question, I decided to read one of the pre-Sadie books. I chose To Have or To Hold – couldn't put it down, zipped through it in less than a day and it still haunts me. I intend to read it again, and I don't do that very often. I even wrote about it on my blog, The Write Stuff at pamwrite.blogspot.com. One of the most ingenious plot elements was the way it started out as HER story and somewhere in the middle it turned into HIS story. It was very satisfying. How did you DO that??!!

I love your Culinary Mystery books! My sister told me about them awhile ago, so I checked them out from the library and I read all three! I loved them and when I finished Devils Food Cake I went online to see when Key Lime Pie comes out because I am so excited to read it. So I was happy to see it only came out a few weeks ago, unfortunatly, I am on a long list at the library to read it, so I may have to go and just buy the book myself because I am that inpatient. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the books and your writing. (And the recipes!) I wrote all of them down! Hope you don't mind! I'm excited to try the Evil Chicken.

Thanks again for the great writing!

So far, 7 points for me, mostly on Facebook & Twitter. I hope I get 2nd or 3rd prize because I *LOVE* your Sadie series and really, really want a copy of Key Lime Pie.

I requested it at my local library, and they decided to order Lemon Tart first to see how much interest there is. So I told all my FB friends how wonderful the series is, and a couple have put L.T. on hold. I'm sure after that they'll be hooked, like I was!

I got one point from posting on Facebook.

Another point - I wrote a post on my blog: http://askauntalice.wordpress.com/2010/09/07/key-lime-pie-and-other-delicious-mysteries/

I also sent a link to it to a couple of email lists, and posted the link on FB & Twitter. :)

Okay, so I've tweeted, and I put up a review at every single one of the sites you listed (4 key lime pie, 1 devil's food cake, 1 english trifle).

I really am quite smitten with that Sadie lady. She's fabulously entertaining!

I just added reviews at Deseret Book, Amazon and Goodreads. (3 more points, please.) I don't see my earlier comment about my blog post, but maybe it's still waiting for moderation. In case it's not, here's the link again: http://askauntalice.wordpress.com/2010/09/07/key-lime-pie-and-other-delicious-mysteries/

Good night. :)
